PHeonix/AWARD BIOS Discontinued
WORLD EXCLUSIVE..... AWARD/Pheonix BIOS TO BE DISCONTINUED!
This is not in the public domain as of yet! An ultra reliable source ( to remain unamed) at DFI (diamond Flower International) has mentioned that the man whom owns the Award/Pheonix BIOS company is closing its doors for the final time. Due to the up and coming EFI and the ever-shrinking desktop market. This decision has been made! Information on EFI http://www.intel.com/technology/efi/ This explains why DFI have chosen to use American Megatrends for their P55 series of motherboards. Such as shame as Award is a much better BIOS layout than AMI Such as shame! More details to follow tomorrow Opinions please on this sad turn of events! *******NEWS FLASH UPDATE************* Just in: It has been confirmed that though Award is shutting down it's parent company Pheonix is not! Back in 1998 Pheonix purchased Award, HOWEVER the actual BIOS systems are totally different; with Award producing theirs and Pheonix producing their own. DFI have decided (now that the Award arm has been shut down) that Pheonix BIOS is inferior to that of the old Award and even American Megatrends. A sad day for all of overclockers and a bad business move by Pheonix. gilgamesh

That really sucks! RIP AWARD BIOS. Sounds like I'm shouting, but they're capitalized. I had AWARD on my abit board & MSI before that. Very easy to navigate and handle BIOS. AMI even emulated the AWARD look with the EVGA P55 FTW BIOS and it's better. Naitive formatted AMI BIOS is just not as user friendly, at least with my TPower I45 it wasn't. RIP.

Yep I remember AMI Bios, back in the day of 386/486's and I remember then they tried to do a BIOS that looks like Windows for workgroups 3.11. Where you could click on the items with your mouse. Needless to say it wasnt very good.
Award really grew on me. I know about EFI but still I was hoping that award still hada role to play! Such a pity and I agree with hookie the AMI Bios layout is light years behind that of Award. It is a sad sad day for us overclockers. I agree with Hokie R.I.P Award! gilgamesh

personally I don't mind the layout of the AMI BIOS. In fact I find it faster and easier to navigate than an award bios.
It is probably due to the fact I have used asus boards for the last 4 years and have got use the the AMI bios used by them

As i find Ami bios very primitive and cumbersome. Award bios is much easier to navigate./ gilgamesh

It seems XSReviews, who picked up on this thread first, is getting credited for the finding, even though they link here.
http://www.xsreviews.co.uk/article11310.html http://www.bjorn3d.com/viewnews.php?id=3911 I'm going to try and get a major site to publish something on it, but with a link to this thread instead |

Oh, that's a bad news. As 90% of the enthusiast crowd, I prefer AWARD over AMI. So much in fact that I will not buy a board if I know it is equipped with AMI BIOS!
Thanks for the news! |
