Default PCIEx16 question

Hey all , I was looking at the PCIEx1 and x4 PCIE SSD cards and was wondering if its possible to use it in a x16 slot ? My pcie x1 slot is occupying my wi-fi adapter and saw in the bios that I can change the x16 slot to x8 . Wondering if its possible to use the slot for more than just video cards . Thanks .

I belive it is possible to populate a slot with a lower badwith card , but the thing is will your PC do PCIE Boot if not your better off going for a Sata SSD mate
