Power supplies, are an often over-looked feature and in this modern day there are power supplies for everything! Such as computers, mobile phones, laptops, netbooks, hand-held game consoles and PDA’s. However PDA’S are very much redundant, so this still leaves a multitude of gadgets that need either recharging or to provide power. Packaging

The External box on the USNA 95 is a lovely white and purple (Coolermaster’s colour of choice) with a window at the front showing the power adapter in all its glory. Also on the front there is the International Forum Product Design Award 2010 logo.

On the back there is a list of features and another small opening that shows all of the different tips that can be utilised for a variety of devices.

Opening the package up everything is nicely protected in a plastic inner carton. The contents are the USNA 95 power adapter, power cable, 9 interchangeable tips, wire clip, carrying case and a user’s guide.

The USNA 95 Product

The USNA is a very simple device.   It has a black design with a small Cooler Master logo emboldened on the top.  The unit itself is quite small at  2.5 x 1.2 x 9 centimeters.  On the rear of  there is a rather large sticker  with all the information you need to know about the device.

On the power adapter there are three connections. First on the one side you have the two-pin power connector, this is the side that plugs into the consumers wall socket. On the otherside there are two more connectors; which are for connecting to your laptop/netbook and the other is to charge your mobile phone/MP3 Player. On handling the product one can feel the quality almost oozing from the product and it bares no resemblence at all to the cheap generic power supplies, that usually proove that they are a false eceonomy.

If you look at the end of the cable that connects to your laptop you will notice that it needs a tip on it.  Included are 9 interchangeable tips that will fit most laptops.  To see the compatibility have a look at the compatibility chart list below.

General Use

There is not much to say really except that the power adapter simply does ‘what it says on the tin’ and does it well. To test this a Samsung N220 Netbook was used (using the purple tip) and three tests were performed. The first was to see if the Coolermaster USNA 95 could actually power the device. To demonstrate this the battery was unplugged and the adapter was powered on.  The good news was that the Netbook functioned perfectly, the bad was there were wires all over the desk. However Coolermaster have included a handy clip to deal with this issue.

The Second Test was to see if could actually serve as a RECHARGING station. In order to accomplish this the netbook battery was drained of all power and the USNA95 connected. After one hour of charging, the Samsung N220 was powered on and it displayed a 60 percent charge.

The third test was to check to see if the adapter could power both the above device AND recharge a mobile phone together. For this a Sony Eriikson W995 was connected at the same time as the Samsung N220. Not only does it power and recharge the netbook, the recharge of the phone was much faster than a standard USB port. Well done Coolermaster!

Conclusion

Obtaining a power adaptor for your laptop/netbook can be a time consuming affair and in some cases a very expensive one too!  The Cooler Master USNA 95 not only takes away all the aforementioned woes but is much less costly then a similar adapter for your notebook.

As mentioned previously, the USNA 95 oozes quality and feels very solid, more so than even the power charger that came with this writers Samsung N220 netbook! Coolermaster have pulled off a product that is most certainly hard to beat. The multi power adapters that crowd your wall sockets are now a thing of the past, thanks to Coolermaster.
